More MoMA!

SFS and I visited the Museum of Modern Art last week, and I posted a bunch of photos yesterday. But in typical fashion, I took WAY more than a single post worth! Without further ado, here is the rest of our visit to MoMA.

On the third floor of the museum there is an AMAZING spot to check out some buildings in Midtown- and SFS and I took a break to enjoy the scenery.

One of the temporary exhibits we saw was Ron Arad's No Discipline.
As the MoMA website explains:

Among the most influential designers of our time, Ron Arad (Israeli, b. 1951)stands out for his daredevil curiosity about technology and materials and for the versatile nature of his work. Trained at the Jerusalem Academy of Art and at London's Architectural Association, Arad has produced an outstanding array of innovative objects over the past twenty-five years, from almost unlimited series of objects to carbon fiber armchairs and polyurethane bottle racks. He has also designed memorable spaces, some plastic and tactile, others ethereal and digital. This exhibition will be the first major retrospective of Arad's design work in the United states. Arad relies on the computer and its rapid manufacturing capabilities as much as he relies on the soldering apparatusin his metal workshop. His beautiful furniture can even receive and display SMS and Bluetooth messages from mobile phones and Palm Pilots. Idiosyncratic and surprising, and also very beautiful, Arad's designs communicate the joy of invention, pleasure and humor, and pride in the display of their technical and constructive skills. The exhibition will open in Paris in the fall of 2009.

We eventually made our way to the upper floors, where we got to see some pretty amazing pieces. I loved this Picasso.
How about this one? I can't remember who painted it, though...

And here's the Salvador Dali clock painting. It's a lot smaller than I was anticipating (sorta like the Mona Lisa, right?)... but oh so neat! Sorry about the glare- they have a fancy piece of glass in front of the picture.

And this was my first Frida Khalo.
I was trying to be artistic with this one...
At first I couldn't figure out where I'd seen this one before... but then I remembered that this print is hanging in my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant in Astoria.
I absolutely LOVE these!
I think these Piet Mondrian are so great... what do you think?
This Gustav Klimt was so lush- love the metallic!
There was QUITE a crowd around this one. It made me want to sing Don McLean's Vincent.
Here's some of the crowd. SFS made an excellent point by saying that the piece to the right of Starry Night is probably the saddest piece in the whole museum. Now I feel bad for not giving it more attention!
This is another Klimt that made me weak in the knees.
How about a little Ferris Bueller action?

The museum was about to close, and as we made our way to the escalator, look what we ran into:

And as if a day at the art museum wasn't good enough, look what SFS made me for dinner!
Doesn't that look amazing? He whipped up some sauteed dandelions and beef bragiole... yummy!
