Shattered chic!

Shattered fingernail polish? YES PLEASE!

I received some new nail polishes for my birthday recently... and one of the bottles was Shatter OPI nail polish.

The name really says it all- when you paint it on your nails, it breaks apart as it dries... it's the coolest thing! I couldn't wait to try it- so I decided to pair it with Birthday Babe (a shimmery, silvery color that had the perfect name for the occasion!).

I started by painting my nails with the Birthday Babe (and yes- prior to this new look, my nails were kelly green).

Per the directions, I let the silver polish dry completely before continuing.

Then I quickly painted a single layer of the shatter polish over the silver.

The shattering effect started almost immediately. By the time I set down the nail polish brush and picked up my camera, the black polish was already starting to crackle!

And before I knew it, all of my nails were "shattered chic"!!

I added a clear top coat after the shattering was complete, and that was it- my nails were finished! I think this product is really cool, and I've gotten so many compliments on the finished product!! FYI: the shattered polish comes in black and silver and is available at many beauty supply stores.

Pretty polish, please!

I like nail polish. I mean, I really like it!

This probably isn't a surprise to many of you- I've talked about nail polish in three separate posts over the last year... egads! And while I love my regular brands (OPI, Sephora by OPI, and Essie), I also enjoy trying new ones! So when I read an article about Inglot a while back, I just had to check it out!
Inglot is a Polish make-up brand, and they sell everything from eyeshadow to lipstick... and they happen to have a fun little store in NYC! So the other day I stopped by, and was immediately drawn to the nail polish wall... can you blame me?
I tried to be reasonable, so I walked out with just a tiny little bag...
Filled with two kinds of Inglot's signature nail polish!
First up, 706! Not only is this great shade a matte finish, but it's also toluene, formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and camphor FREE! Considering that I wear nail polish all the time, the idea of using a polish with less chemicals really appealed to me!
I also purchased a bottle of O2M 634. (The information I read about this particular product was what brought me into the store in the first place.) You see, O2M polishes are made from a new polymer that was originally designed for use in contact lenses. Not only are the yucky chemicals still missing, but the new polymer increases the oxygen permeability of the varnish (meaning air can get through the paint to my nails) and it reduces the film tightness (which means my nails feel more natural). Isn't that cool?
Of course, I had to try out the O2M polish right away. And while it does feel different from my other polishes when dry (it's not as slick to the touch), the color is quite nice and I haven't gotten a chip yet!

Packing up for a long day

I'm not exactly a morning person, so I like to pack the items I'll need for the day the night before. Most Sunday nights I'm busy packing a lunch or paperwork I've done over the weekend... but last night was different.
Last night I packed up my favorite peep-toe heels...
And a pair of sparkly earrings for an event I'm attending at work today. I have to admit, I love the fact my job requires me to attend fancy dinners and performances!
Tonight's event is a pretty big deal, so I even stopped by my local nail salon for a quick manicure.
Of course, I picked another one of the OPI: Swiss collections: Yodel Me On My Cell...
Isn't it pretty?

I'm a Swiss-Miss now!

I love nail polish, and I particularly love getting my nails painted. My local nail salon is reasonably priced, so I stop in for visit whenever I can find the time! Over the weekend I decided to get a pedicure and couldn't resist choosing one a color from OPI's Fall 2010 collection: SWISS!
I thought Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous was too sparkly to pass up- and apparently the lady in the pedicure chair next to me agreed because after she saw my toes she decided to go with the same color! Since I don't have a picture of the polish bottle (because it was in use), you'll have to take this one of the nail dryer.
After of ample drying time, I was able to truly appreciate my new paint job. I think the sparkly pewter color is lovely- it's quite versatile and looks perfect glimmering out of my favorite peep-toed high heels!

Up at the crack of dawn

I don't have to go to work today. And yet, I woke up bright and early a few minutes ago!

You see, I got a new phone- and I'm still learning how to program it! Last night I thought I turned off the alarm... but I guess I didn't!
So now I'm awake, and I don't have to be anywhere until later in the morning! I have miraculously been given an unexpected handful of hours to waste any way I want... and the possibilities are endless! I could catch up on TiVo...
Or dive into a new book I picked up...
Or start a new crochet project with some beautiful yarn my brother bought me...
Or watch the training video for my lighthouse keeper program...
Or paint my nails...
Or I could just go back to bed!
I haven't made my decision quite yet- but with all these choices I can't go wrong! I hope you have a wonderful weekend... see you Monday!
