White out!

When I left for work yesterday morning, the world was white!
The Northeast is still being bombarded with snow, and yesterday morning was no different.
And as I made my way to the office, where I was sure to arrive as a dripping, melting mess, I consoled myself with the thought that the walk home would be a lot less snowy.
But boy, was I wrong about that! Because by the time I made my way home, another storm had rolled in...
And this one was even worse than than the first!
So as you can imagine, I was pretty thrilled to finally make it home! I've never been so happy to have a thick, wool coat and warm, dry boots!

Christmas at Columbus Circle

I stopped at Columbus Circle last night to enjoy the holiday decorations!
You see, inside the Time Warner Center there are massive lanterns...
And not only are they beautiful....
But they change color in time to holiday music that's played throughout mall!
I'm a total sucker for things like this...
And I could watch and listen to these stars for hours!
(Oh- and I could take pictures of them for hours, too... but you probably figured that out by now!)
So if you're ever in NYC over the holidays, I highly recommend checking this out- it's a pretty fun place to stop and enjoy the decorations... especially when it's so cold outside!

Circle after sunset...

Do you know what this is?
At first glance it looks like the Unisphere, but it's actually a similar looking sculpture in front of the Trump Tower at Columbus Circle.
I was walking through Columbus Circle the other night, and decided to take some photos...
Because even though I walk through this area every day, I sometimes forget to take photos of the "mundane" things... so I tried to rectify that!
Things look particularly pretty at night in this neighborhood, thanks to all the landscape lighting.
Not to mention how pretty the towers look in the dark!
Even the monument looked difference after the sun had set...
Kind of fun, right?

I'm flipping out!

This weekend, the Easter Bunny totally spoiled me- look what I found in my Easter basket:
It's true- I'm now the proud owner of a Flip! On the way home from work yesterday, I decided to play with it for the first time. So without further ado, here is a brief Flip video I made:

I realize I'm not going to win an Oscar any time soon, but this new technology is pretty fun!

Now, I have to admit... that was my second attempt at a video... here's what happened 2 minutes before:

Not only did I film that with the protective plastic still on the camera lens, but I also inadvertently taped a homeless man sleeping on a bench. This clip definitely won't make it to Sundance!

"It's a beautiful morning..."

I don't think I've mentioned this in a while, but I absolutely love living in NYC!
There are tons of big reasons why... and a million little reasons, too!
One of those little reasons is my "commute" to work each morning.
After a short ride on the subway, I come above ground a block away from Central Park.
Then I get to walk along the park for a few blocks....
Before cutting through Columbus Circle!
Walking this route each morning is such a treat, and is just one of the little things that makes my life in NYC so wonderful! I hope you have a good Friday and a great weekend- thanks for stopping by!!

Snow Day, version 2.0

Do you remember a couple of weeks ago when I was going on and on about the Snow Day we had here in NYC? Well, wouldn't you know it... but we had ANOTHER ONE on Friday!
And while they cancelled classes at my school, I still had to go into work... thanks a lot, public transportation! (Since I live in the 5 burroughs, I was still expected to be at work, since the subways were running.) But it continued to snow almost all day, and things were still pretty messy when I left the office later that evening. So I decided to take some photos of my normal route home...
There were loads of people in Central Park- check out all these people sledding:
Here's a shot I've taken before, but you can barely see the park benches beneath all that snow!
The snow on Friday was pretty wet, and it stuck to everything... including the trees.
Now, on my walk home, there's a particular place I like to stop and take pictures from. It's a little outlook over the park, and it offers a neat view- see?
Plus, it also has these gorgeous street lights:
Unfortunately, this is what I had to slosh through to get there!
Yep- where are the snow shoes when I need them? Here's what my pants and boots looked like after that little foray into the drift.
What a mess, right? But there were so many people out and about, enjoying the storm, I was hardly the only one covered in snow!
But before I jumped on the subway, I had to snap a photo of the monument at Columbus Circle... I've shared pictures of it on my blog before, but doesn't it look different covered in snow?
As I'm sure you can imagine, we had a blast enjoying the weather this weekend- and I have lots of pictures to show for it! I'll post them over the next couple of days... I hope you had a wonderful weekend as well- thank you for stopping by!

Walking up the west side

On Saturday, the weather was gorgeous here in NYC.
So SFS and I took advantage of the unseasonal temperature (47 degrees!!!), and walked along Central Park for a couple miles. We started around Columbus Circle and just headed north.
NOTE: I hope you aren't sick of seeing shots of Columbus Circle- I've noticed that over the past few months I've posted a lot of shots around this area.
As we walked along the park, we stopped a few times while I took pictures.
People were obviously taking advantage of the lovely afternoon!
I tried to get a shot of SFS- but I think he was having more fun teasing me with silly poses!
And while this is as close to the NYC sewers I'll ever want to be, I rather like the man hole covers!
Here are my boots... and my attempt at being 'artistic'.
This is a shot looking north along Central Park West... it seems like it goes on forever!
And here are some benches... another thing I love to take pictures of!
When we got to 63rd street, I noticed something funny...
Look at all those sad balloon swords in the trash can!
(Though I rather like how you can see a reflection of the neighborhood on that red balloon!)
We had a lovely walk, and thoroughly enjoyed the unexpectedly beautiful afternoon!
