Sleigh Ride
One of the last things we did in Vermont involved horses...
And the beautiful Vermont countryside.
It's true- we got to take a sleigh ride through South Woodstock...
And it was awesome!
The snow let up for a while...
And as we traveled through fields of white...
Covered in bear skins (really)...
I was in absolute winter heaven!!
And as you might expect, I took a ton of photos:
Wanna see a few of my favorites?

The sun even came out at one point...

As you can see, the ride was incredibly fun...
Thanks to these lovely creatures!
If you ever have the chance to take a sleigh ride in the winter, I highly recommend it!

Sun and snow
When I woke up in Vermont on Saturday morning, this was the view out the window.
Talk about snow! That lump behind the other big lumps was the snow piled on top of our van... isn't it crazy? But we had lots to do, so we made our way to the sun room of the main house for breakfast.
(I know what you're thinking: every post from my trip has talked about food so far. I promise we did more on our trip than "just eating"... although my photos sure don't seem to reflect that- oops!)
We snagged a table in the corner of the room and sat down to enjoy the spread.
The breakfast buffet was really lovely...
And even this habitual non-breakfast-eater was able to find a few things to enjoy! :)
After that tasty start to my day, I couldn't resist checking out the rest of the man house. It was really lovely (and it reminded us all a bit of Williamsburg)... like the main sitting room, don't you love that yellow color?
I know I do! (And darn it, I'm going to ace that mirror self-portrait someday...)
Thanks for visiting- see you tomorrow!

...should be beautiful this time of year, with all that snow!
I'm back in NYC after a really fun weekend spent with my family up north. I have loads of photos to share over the next few days- but I haven't had time to upload a single one! Until I do, here's a quick shot that I took when I got home. These are my poor winter boots- see those wicked salt stains? We had a blast this weekend, but these babies had to work really hard while I was away... and it shows!

It's back...
SNOW, that is!
I should have known that the 62 degree afternoon we enjoyed in NYC on Friday was too good to be true... but to be honest, this sight was a bit of a surprise this morning- I guess I forgot that is was still February!
But it's not so bad- everything in the city looks clean and pretty again... so my little trek through Central Park was a lovely start to the morning- thank goodness I hadn't packed up my snow boots quite yet! :)
Thanks for stopping by- I hope you have a great day!

A walk in the park
Since I was starting to feel better this weekend, I decided to go on a stroll through Central Park.
We've had quite a bit of snow here in NYC recently...
So I took my camera along on my walk to capture one of my favorite parts of the city under a blanket of the white stuff.
I think NYC is especially pretty this time of year...
Don't you agree?
The snow hides some of the city's imperfections...
And things look a little bit cleaner all around!

Snow in the city
Just after Christmas, NYC was hit with a pretty big snow storm. The city was found unprepared by that weather system (which you might have heard about from your favorite news outlet), so when the local weather-people started mentioning an incoming storm on Tuesday night, the city kicked into gear.
The snow started to fall Tuesday evening, and by the time I made my way home a light dusting had accumulated.
Of course the snow was still coming down, so after my walk home from the subway I was pretty white with snow!
But after drying off and warming up, I went about my normal evening routine... when a few hours later I looked out my kitchen window...
And was greeted by a beautiful sight:
The backyard had turned into a winter wonderland...
All in a manner of hours!
It was so beautiful- everything was quiet, peaceful and cold! Plus, after all the attention the storm had gotten on television, I couldn't wait to wake up in the morning to find mountains of snow outside (and hopefully a NYC Public School Closing on the radio).
But alas... this was the view out my front door yesterday morning... a mere 5 inches!
And so while I didn't get a snow day out of it, the storm wasn't a total waste- now NYC is covered in white yet again and looking as pretty as ever!

GreenMarket - Christmas Edition
This weekend, I stopped by the GreenMarket at Union Square to see what was going on.
Believe it or not, this outdoor market stays open all year round. I don't often visit in the winter, so I was curious what would be available. Of course there were a variety of Christmas trees (although they were kind of sad)...
And small bunches of branches for big bucks (I thought my uncle, who is a forester, would get a kick out of these prices).
There were also oodles of apples...
Crates of carrots...
Piles of potatoes (check out all those different kinds!)...
And gobs of gourds!
I had a blast walking around and checking out all the stalls- almost as much fun as I had coming up with those alliterations! I was pretty surprised not to see more Christmas-themed goods, but maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. But I did spot this beautiful swag which looked pretty festive to me!
So while the GreenMarket may not be the most "merry" space in NYC, it's still a pretty fun place to stop- even during the winter!
