Another late night!

I enjoyed the luxury of a taxi ride home after the second performance of our current opera... so here's a glimpse at the view from the Queensboro Bridge:

What a night...

I dragged myself home a few hours ago...
You see, it was quite an evening! Our show opened yesterday night, and after the curtain came down there was a reception...
And boy did I have fun! Not only was the performance AMAZING, but I got to wear a fancy dress, high heels, sparkly jewelry... and I was just doing my job!
But now I'm tired and all I want to do it stay in bed all day! But since that's not an option, I plan on pulling myself together and schlepping myself into work. And while it may be tough to stay awake, the excitement from last night will certainly carry me through the day!

Sunday = FUN DAY!

Yesterday was a really fun (and busy) Sunday. I took my camera phone with me everywhere- want to see what I did?

First up, I went to church.
Yesterday was a big deal at church- we celebrated the bicentennial and in addition to over 30 clergy members in attendance, we welcomed the presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church... it was really fun!
And that fun was compounded when I found out that I got to sit in the pew closest to the organ- I love watching the organists play the pedals on the fast pieces (it's quite a show)!
After church I headed uptown to another church.
A friend of mine was performing in an off-off-off Broadway show in the church's basement.
I'm really glad I could be there to support my friend!
After that it was back across town to attend the Richard Tucker Gala at Avery Fisher Hall.
The hall was packed to the gills with people- it was quite a sight!
But once everything calmed down and the program began, I was in heaven! The event featured performances by: PAVOL BRESLIK, FERRUCCIO FURLANETTO, ELİNA GARANČA, MARCELLO GIORDANI, BRANDON JOVANOVICH, SIMON KEENLYSIDE, ANGELA MEADE, ANNA NETREBKO, LISETTE OROPESA, DEBORAH VOIGT, and JAMES VALENTI (who was the Richard Tucker Award winner for 2010). It was an incredible evening of music featuring some of my favorite arias (hello "È la solita storia del pastore") and a surprise appearance by Susan Graham!
Now you can see why Sunday = FUN DAY for me... talk about a great day full of exciting performances! I hope you had a good weekend as well- thank you for visiting!

Met(ropolitan Opera) under the moon...

I love working at Lincoln Center because there's always something new going on. For example, as I made my way to work the other morning, I passed by several hundred chairs lined up in the plaza.
Those chairs will actually remain where they are until Labor Day, thanks to the 2010 Summer HD Festival. Every night (for 10 nights) the Met will be projecting their HD operas on the big screen. This event is a big hit- especially since it's free! Don't believe me? Check out the crowd that had gathered by 7 pm...
The movies are started at 8 pm, so when I strolled out of the office last night around 8:30 I had a chance to glimpse a bit of Magic Flute...

Long day's journey into night....

The school year is coming to an end, which means I don't have much time to finish up the projects at work before I leave for what is sure to be an epic summer of fun! But with only a few days left in the office, I have a lot to do... which means I've been going home after the sun sets.
So on my walk home last night, I stopped to snap a few photos of Lincoln Center. I started with the Metropolitan Opera, and then turned to the right to photograph Avery Fisher Hall.
And to my left were the cool light fixtures at the Koch Theater.
One of the newest features of the Lincoln Center is the electronic stairway leading up to the theaters. Throughout the day messages, information, and performance updates are displayed along these scrolling screens.
Kind of a neat feature, right? I really like working in this part of town...
I mean, how could you not?

Live at Lincoln Center

I had to work late last night. I wasn't exactly thrilled about the prospect, but as I left the office, I realized I hadn't ever taken pictures of Lincoln Center at night. Would you like to see what things look like after dark?
That's the Metropolitan Opera. Even though the poster says Tosca, there are multiple productions going on in the same time period.
These are the light fixtures at the State Theater. Wait- the Koch Theater. Man, I'm never going to get that right. In any event, this building is still under heavy construction. One of the many renovations to this space are the creation of two center aisles, where there were previously none.
But back to the Met. Look- you can sorta see one of the chandeliers!
And there's Alice Tully. Of all the Lincoln Center buildings, that's the one I've visited the most. I also saw my first Lincoln Center performance there- Marilyn Horne and Friends in 1997... seems like AGES ago!
And nowadays, I work there- right in the 5 story building you see in the center of the photo. Isn't it interesting how life turns out?
There's still a lot of construction going on, but one thing is completely finished: the fountain. I think it looks especially cool at night, since it's lit from underneath!
Did you catch that fella's four legged friend on the right? Too funny!

Ok, I think that's everything Lincoln Center has to offer after dark.
