It's all Greek to me...

This weekend was the 2011 Greek Independence Day Parade. 

Each year, hundreds of people parade up Fifth Avenue to celebrate the Anniversary of Greek Declaration of Independence, which happened March 25th 1821.

It's a really festive parade, complete with floats...

Lots of kids in costumes...

And my personal favorite: marching bands!

I love parade season- now if only the weather would warm up so standing along the side of the road watching the festivities wasn't so painful!

Parading down Fifth Avenue

Over the weekend, I had a chance to meander around the Upper East Side.
As I walked, I noticed that 5th Avenue was closed. While the closure made for great pictures, it got me wondering... what was going on?
A few blocks later, I found the answer: it was the Greek Independence Day Parade! I had just enough time to stop and watch for a bit... so here's a little taste of the NYPD Marching Band- enjoy!

Giant metal things

At certain times of the year, they line the streets of NYC.

What if I told you they were lined up along Columbus Circle...

They're bleaches!
They're being lined up for the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade on Thursday.
The parade route changed this year- instead of rolling down Broadway, the majority of the parade will run along 7th Avenue, which means the floats will run along the south end of Central Park, which is where I snapped these bleachers.
When I was taking those pictures, I saw these seat stickers... I doubt they're for the parade, but maybe they are! Wouldn't that be funny if all those spectators had pre-assigned seats?
As you can see, the city is in full swing preparing for Thanksgiving!
