Or should I say, I made sushi
that I would actually eat! :)
Today is SFS's birthday, and because I'm a total dork, I decided to make him some cupcake pops. I'd seen the idea on
Bakerella's trip to PW's lodge, and thought that it might make a nice little surprise for SFS (his love of sushi is well documented)! I had planned on meeting him at his office this afternoon for lunch (we ordered cheesesteak's from
Shorty's- my broccoli rabe/provolone was DELISH)... so I took these along as a treat!
In any event, here are some pictures of my process. First, I started with the cupcake pop "dough"...

Then I shaped it into "sushi" shapes... (I know, it doesn't look totally appealing- but it'll get better, I PROMISE!)...

Then I sliced up a bunch of Juju Fruits. I pre-sorted the "groupings" because I didn't want to have two pieces of "fish" the same color! My "rolls" have to be colorful, people...

After that, I added sticks to my "sushi"... doesn't it look like a little forest?

Oooooh... here's a shot post-dipping...

This is what they look like when it's all done...

Dontcha think the pineapple looks
just like a little fish?

I then made a little "bento box" to hold the "sushi". (Ok- so this looks NOTHING like a bento box. I know. I'm just trying to stick with the theme... please humor me!)

I wrapped all the pops individually. (Come on... these things were going on the subway- you would've done the same!)

And the finished product:

So there you have it- Happy Thursday, and
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SFS!
