America runs on Dunkin'

It was a gross, rainy day here in NYC!
So to brighten the mood around my office, I brought in a box of munchkins for my colleagues.
And you know what I learned? Nothing cheers up a bunch of grumpy, wet people like a bunch of donut holes!
I mean, they sure made my morning great!
Thank you for stopping by- I hope you have a great day!

Moseying down Main Street

As I blogged about yesterday, SFS and I went to Cold Spring over the weekend. And believe it or not, the village has more to offer than a beautiful backdrop for jumping pictures!
I was gaga over the leaves... even lying on the ground they were beautiful!
If you walk about 2 blocks away from the river, you come to a tunnel.
If that tunnel were in NYC, I might think twice about making my way through... but in Cold Spring, you have to travel under the train tracks to get to town.
Once out of the tunnel, you find yourself at the foot of Main Street- right across from the Visitor's Center.
There is so much to see and do on Main Street. I could've stopped to take a million pictures- for obvious reasons! I loved the way the ivy was changing on this building!
The first time SFS and I visited Cold Spring, I had read that there were a couple antique stores on Main Street. But when we got there, there were quite a few- and they were all really good ones! When we went back this year, I knew I wanted to spend quite a little time combing through the treasures!
Of course, I didn't even notice this until SFS pointed it out. I'm not sure I'd want just one, but this close to Halloween, I was doing the math to see how much the WHOLE urn would cost!
As it was getting late in the day, SFS and I decided to stop for lunch at this yummy cafe (you can see him in the blue jacket, checking out the menu).
When we got inside, we were pleased to find out that they had old-timey sodas. SFS got the Root Beer, while I went with a boring (yet wonderful) Diet Coke.
When it came to our entrees, I went with the turkey club.
SFS was a little more daring and tried the grilled croissant with ham and Swiss. Plus- those fried were homemade... talk about wonderful!
And to top it all off, we ordered a piece of homemade pumpkin pie... with real whipped cream!
After that scrumptious meal, we made our way back down Main Street.
Last year we had visited this cute little shop, and we really wanted to go back. It's owned (and run) by a lovely lady from Wales.
And yes... apparently we're Leaf Peepers!

Check out her store- isn't it fun? It's filled with all sorts of kitchen and home goods.
After we shopped for a while, it started to get dark. Before we left town, we grabbed some ice cream from the Ice Cream Shoppe... it's the building at the end of the road with all the lights on.
And because I'm a goof, want to see what I bought in Cold Spring? I got this from the nice lady's kitchen store.
It's a yummy scone mix (SFS got some last year, and it was so good I had to get some this year), and an olive wood spoon. It's beautiful wood, but not too beautiful that I won't use it (i.e. bird's eye maple).

I also picked up a Salt and Pepper set at the antique store... isn't it seasonal?
That's it for our trip to Cold Spring, NY.
SFS and I had a great time- thanks for sharing in our little get away!
I hope you have a great Wednesday!

The color in Cold Spring

Yesterday I was telling you that SFS and I got out of NYC on Saturday. We took the MetroNorth Railroad, and got off at this picturesque little town. Have you ever been to Cold Spring? It's an hour or so outside of the city, right on the Hudson River... in fact, it's just one stop north of West Point!
Last year SFS and I travelled to Cold Spring and had a really good time- so we knew we had to make another visit this fall! The town has an amazing history- the village's Foundry provided munitions for the Union Army during the Civil War, and was incorporated in 1864. In 1973, the Village was designated a Federal Historic District, and is now an amazing place to visit!

Once off the train, the village is full of amazing houses...
That all have views like this!
When we got off the train, SFS and I decided to head down to the Hudson.
It was a rainy day, but that didn't stop us!
I can't tell you how pretty it was to look across the water and see the beautiful trees changing color...
Oh my gosh, right? Totally worth a yearly visit, if I do say so myself! In fact, SFS was so excited to be there, he was jumping for joy! Ok, so maybe that wasn't exactly the case, but isn't that a cute picture?
SFS reciprocated, and took a jumping picture of me. It might have taken a few tries, but this makes it look like I can actually catch some air! (And even though it's been years since I was a cheerleader, I apparently still have the whole cheerleading-arms thing going on...)
But back to the normal pictures.
SFS took this cool one from under a tree.
Ok, I tried, but I couldn't stick with the normal pictures... doesn't this look like SFS is cannonballing into a swimming pool?
After SFS finished jumping, we noticed that a train was passing on the other side of the river. Doesn't it look just like a model train set?
I was a picture snapping fool all day. Lucky for me, SFS was a good sport and posed along the way!
We decided to following a walking trail that lead to a small park farther up the river.
It started to rain harder, so SFS held the umbrella so I could keep taking pictures. He's quite a guy, right?
And now, how about some astounding news? The lovely blue coat you see below is the first rain coat SFS has ever owned. I know- I was floored when he told me. He bought it a few weeks ago, and I couldn't figure out why he was so enamored by it... but he's been talking about all the bells and whistles it has... like a mesh lining, Velcro pockets, elastic pulls on the hood, and a built in visor. Since he grew up in California, he's used to sunny, beautiful weather 95% of the time... can you imagine?
Even in the rain, Cold Spring is a beautiful place to visit.
But don't worry- we did more than just walk around in the rain! Check back tomorrow to see what else the Village of Cold Spring has to offer! Thanks for stopping by- I hope you have a great Tuesday!

I'm freezing!

As I'm sure you have noticed, I love taking pictures.
But yesterday was a different story.
The weather was downright miserable!
So what do I do when the weather is gross?
I take pictures from SFS's balcony. Hey- it's dry and I don't have to use my umbrella!
Plus, there are still some interesting things to look at!
On that note, Justice Sotomayor and I would like to wish you a happy weekend! Thanks for stopping by!
